After watching Dhurandar part 2... If Dhurandar is a propaganda movie, then what was Amar Akbar Anthony in 1980s.  There is a difference. Both were propoganda movies but there is a difference.  How Triumph of the Will differes from  Battleship Potempkin, the same way, Dhurandar differs from Amar Akbar Anthony.  Triump of the Will propagates the ideology of certain political party, so does Dhurandar. Battleship Potempkin puts forth the idea of exploitation and revolution, of course bypassing the nuances but still it doesn't endorse any political party, so does Amar Akbar Anthony.  Triump of the Will presents one person as the supreme leader and propagates the idea of following that leader, so does Dhurandar.  Battleship Potempkin doesn't propose any such idea of supreme leadership, so does Amar Akbar Anthony.  Both kind of movies are propaganda but they differ in their method messaging... 

गणपतीचा देखावा किंव्हा शाळेच्या गॅदरिंग मधे घालतात तसे पोशाख घालून सगळे राजदरबारात उभे आहेत आणि एकजण, ज्यामुळे भारतीय उपखंडाचा राजकीय पट बदलणार आहे अशी अत्यंत महत्वाची - छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांचं निधन झाल्याची अत्यंत नाजूक बातमी, तेही सगळ्यांसमक्ष औरंगजेबाला सांगतो. यावर टीवी सिरीयल मध्ये दिसतात तसे आणि तशा एडिटिंग पॅटर्न मधे दरबारातल्या लोकांचे हावभाव दाखवले जातात.  २०२५ मधे गाजलेला म्हणून, ‘छावा’ चित्रपट बघायला घेतला आणि हा चित्रपटाचा पहिला सीन पाहून बंद केला. 

The first question arose in mind when I heard that Dev D is based on Sharatchandra’s Devdas was why the film is titled as ‘Dev D’. Well if the director might have thought that the title would be creative enough to attract audience to the theatres, let me clarify, personally for me the only compulsion to watch Dev D was Anurag Kashyap being its director and not the title of the film. But the ‘title mystery’ got solved once I watched the movie. Anurag’s protagonist ‘Dev’ doesn’t become ‘complete’ Devdas as in the end, he decides to lead his life in positive manner with the help of ‘Chanda’ (In the final scene Dev wears Chanda’s helmet for protection while driving and heads towards court to confess his misdeed). Anurag’s Dev who almost treads the path of Sharatchandra’s Devdas, finally chooses not lead it further and evades himself from becoming the ‘Devdas, ’the classic tragic hero. Thus he remains just Dev D.
