Zindagi (without ‘soul’) Na Milegi Dobara

After the release Farhan Akhtar on his tweeter account said, “It’s so fantastic that everyone loves the poems in ZNMD. Thank you pa for injecting soul into the film with your gifted hand.” Undoubtedly, poems recited by Imran and penned by his ‘pa’ ‘inject soul’ into the film, and it’s the poetry in the film which saves the film from becoming a clichéd story of three friends. The poetry in ZNMD certainly gives philosophical touch to the film Effective, extensive and exact usage of the poems and poetry recitation is quite a rare phenomenon in Hindi films. Largely filmmakers prefer poetry in the form of songs and hardly anyone thinks that poetry recitation can be used as an effective technique in the film. Why 'Dev D' and not 'Devdas'?

The first question arose in mind when I heard that Dev D is based on Sharatchandra’s Devdas was why the film is titled as ‘Dev D’. Well if the director might have thought that the title would be creative enough to attract audience to the theatres, let me clarify, personally for me the only compulsion to watch Dev D was Anurag Kashyap being its director and not the title of the film. But the ‘title mystery’ got solved once I watched the movie. Anurag’s protagonist ‘Dev’ doesn’t become ‘complete’ Devdas as in the end, he decides to lead his life in positive manner with the help of ‘Chanda’ (In the final scene Dev wears Chanda’s helmet for protection while driving and heads towards court to confess his misdeed). Anurag’s Dev who almost treads the path of Sharatchandra’s Devdas, finally chooses not lead it further and evades himself from becoming the ‘Devdas, ’the classic tragic hero. Thus he remains just Dev D.

Udaan was perfect except ‘that’ scene

As expected Udaan was a perfect experience! In the world of escapist bollywood masala films, Udaan has set the perfect example of healthy entertainment. When filmmaker remains truthful to characters and the context of the film, a magical film like Udaan is born. After watching the film when I came out of theatre I was thoroughly elated, but later, just one scene from the film kept on pestering me. I thought either the scene was loosely scripted or I failed to understand it. The scene is in later half of the movie. Bhairavsingh, Rohan’s father is all prepared to meet the officials of bank or some important organization who have come to visit his plant. The way he is dressed up and the way he talks to them its very clear that his fate is dependent on the meeting. After the initial interaction Bhairavsingh requests officials to actually visit the plant. As he is about to usher them to the plant, he gets a call from Arjun’s (Rohan’s step brother) school.
